Nepal Disabled Women Association implemented a three-year project, “Inclusive Partnership Against Violence Among Women and Girls with Disability’ (InPAV)”, with the support of the UN Trust Fund. Working with 73 local governments of 27 districts in seven provinces of Nepal, the project aimed to:

  • increase community awareness and capacity to combat violence against women and girls with disabilities (WGWD);
  • strengthen governance and gender-based violence mechanisms; and
  • improve knowledge and evidence on violence against WGWD to influence policies and programmes.

The final evaluation found that the project helped service providers and decision-makers to sensitively address the needs of WGWD survivors of gender-based violence, and influenced policymakers to promote WGWD’s access to support and resources.

Main findings of the evaluation:

  • The project identified the high prevalence of gender-based violence against WGWDs and highlighted this among targeted stakeholders such as families, neighbourhood and community members, society at large, service providers and policymakers.
  • The project reduced the vulnerabilities of at least 1,464 WGWD affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Project interventions were effective in capacitating governmental and non-governmental service providers to see the link between gender-based violence and WGWD, and empowering them to provide effective and disability- and gender-based violence-sensitive services.
