Period: January 2016 to January 2018
Grant amount: USD 99,657
Description: The ARDD Gender Justice Unit works on addressing root causes of gender inequality in the communities it serves. The “Know Her Rights” project aimed to facilitate a social environment that would better enable women and girls to live free from sexual and gender-based violence in Jordan and create a positive environment for changing attitudes about violence against women and girls.
Main findings of the evaluation:
- ARDD contributed to producing a national toolkit that addresses violence in the family, in the community and by the state; and advocated for systematic and holistic interventions to combat such violence nationwide;
- The many social actors involved in the project collectively identified and agreed key messages to tackle sensitive issues and help practitioners, academics and policy makers when dealing with matters of violence;
- he collaborative approach was found to be widely applicable when seeking to promote concise messages from government institutions about violence against women and girls; at the end of the project, 30 community-based organizations were promoting awareness about violence against women and girls.
