UN Trust Fund Global Secretariat
In July 2025, the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women and Girls (UN Trust Fund) established its new Global Secretariat, headquartered in Bonn, Germany. This marks a significant milestone in its evolution - strengthening its operational effectiveness, global reach and ability to deliver results for women and girls worldwide.
The Global Secretariat brings together regional hubs in Nairobi, Istanbul, Bangkok and Panama City, supported by a continued presence in New York. This new structure positions the UN Trust Fund closer to its grantee partners — women’s rights and civil society organizations — enabling faster, more contextual support and deeper collaboration with UN entities, development partners, and regional stakeholders.
The shift aligns with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the UN Trust Fund’s forthcoming Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which prioritizes sustainability, partnership and measurable impact. It equips the UN Trust Fund to respond more effectively to today’s complex realities — leveraging its global presence to deliver coordinated action and lasting change.
What it means for grantee partners
The new Global Secretariat is designed to strengthen how the UN Trust Fund supports its grantee partners — making engagement more direct, coordinated, and effective.
- Closer and more contextual support: Regional hubs bring Fund staff closer to partners, allowing faster, more tailored engagement that reflects local realities and needs.
- Stronger coordination and learning: A connected global structure enhances continuity, knowledge-sharing, and collective learning across global, regional, and country levels.
- More resources where they’re needed most: By reducing administrative layers and improving efficiency, the new model allows more funds to reach women’s rights and civil society organizations driving change in their communities.
- Sustained global visibility: A continued presence in New York ensures partners’ priorities remain visible in key UN and intergovernmental spaces.
