Arab Women Organization (AWO) delivered the project “Feminist Response in Action Through Community Mobilization for Access to SGBV Services Engaging Intersecting Vulnerabilities” in Irbid and Mafraq in Jordan from August 2021 to August 2024. The project, funded by the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women, addressed sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) by enhancing inclusive access to specialized and legal services, developing advocacy capacities of local community-based organizations and women community leaders, and conducting intersectional research on domestic violence and SGBV experiences of women and girls.

The final evaluation concluded that while the project had a positive impact on attitudes and behaviours related to gender-based violence, its long-term sustainability remained uncertain without additional investment in institutional capacity and economic empowerment initiatives.

Key findings:

  • 92% of survey respondents said the project had empowered them to end SGBV, and 96% reported feeling safer in their community.
  • 594 women and girl survivors of SGBV received case management services.
  • 10 community initiatives were successfully launched, with six implemented at Al-Bayt University, reaching 700 to 800 community members with information on SGBV.
  • 11 dialogue sessions, involving 173 diverse stakeholders, discussed legislative gaps and made recommendations for strengthening the law’s implementation.

"Before the training, I wasn’t comfortable talking about these issues. Now, I’ve led multiple sessions in my community, and I’ve seen men and women come together to discuss how we can prevent violence." – Community leader from Mafraq
