Centro de Intercambio y Servicios para el Cono Sur Argentina (CISCSA), with the support of UN Trust Fund, implemented the project “We are territories: Women and local actors’ voices articulated for action against violence directed to women and girls” from January 2020 to July 2023 in the main cities of three regions of Córdoba province: Río Cuarto, Villa María and Cruz del Eje.
The project aimed to strengthen local women’s grass-roots organizations and groups, namely women, political activists, human rights defenders, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer leaders, together with key actors such as public officials, members of national civil society organizations and journalists. It intervened on issues relating to violence against women and girls (VAW/G) in public spaces that was structured around four interconnected pillars:
- production, systematization and dissemination of localized knowledge around safe public spaces for women and girls;
- co-creation, production and dissemination of tools for addressing VAW/G in public spaces;
- sensitization campaigns; and
- development and implementation of participatory models of multi-stakeholder articulation for the construction of local action plans to prevent VAW/G in public spaces.
The final evaluation found that the project successfully worked with local grass-roots organizations, gathered vital data and widely disseminated important information.
Main findings of the evaluation:
- Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project worked with over 42 local grass-roots organizations active in the three targeted regions, as well as with women leaders and human rights defenders.
- The project gathered valuable data, assessed the situation of VAW/G in public spaces, and consulted over 500 women and girls, which allowed CISCSA to co-create a series of guidelines and advocacy pieces that were widely shared, and trained over 150 public officers.
